Ancient shipwrecks in the south-eastern Adriatic, Montenegrin Coast
Abstract
Lacking the underwater archaeological excavations the entire data set on underwater archaeological sites in Montenegro that we are going to present in this paper is based on the observations from archaeological diving surveying that has been done till now and the archaeological interpretation that has encompassed the artifacts from the museums but also the ones from private collections. This approach allowed us to define 31 locations along the Adriatic coast, some of them with more than one shipwreck, and a few locations on the river Bojana which have been distinguished as a specific unit. These locations belong to different categories of finds: anchorages, remains of shipwrecks or isolated, scattered finds. What we are going to present is the material from the remains of a shipwrecks that occurred along the coast of Montenegro in the period from 3rd century BC till the 15th century AD.
